For the Indiana Fever guard, though, this hasn't always been a pleasant experience.
On Wednesday's "This Past Weekend" podcast, Cunningham said that the FBI is keeping tabs on individuals due to concerns that they might be stalking her.
"We do have a lot of stalkers. I know I do. That's the negative side of things that people don't think about. … I have, I think, 20 people that the FBI are watching for me alone."
Cunningham added that she knows one of the individuals suspected of stalking. An avid lover of animals, Cunningham joked that she might have to rename a miniature donkey that she owns, given that this donkey shares a name with a person who was charged with felony stalking .
Aside from Cunningham, there have been other prominent WNBA names who have experienced being followed and getting harassed in recent years. In July 2025, a 55-year-old man pled guilty to charges of stalking and harassing Caitlin Clark. He was subsequently sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
In February, then-Atlanta Falcons rookie James Pearce Jr. was arrested for aggravated stalking and other felony charges after he crashed into the car of his ex-girlfriend Rickea Jackson.
In the same podcast appearance, Sophie Cunningham gave props to the college stars who were drafted two years ago for helping the WNBA become more popular.
Cunningham, who was drafted 13th out of Missouri in 2019, said that the 2024 draft class brought more eyeballs to the league.
"That class of Caitlin, Cameron Brink, Hailey Van Lith, Angel (Reese), they just had the platform. They had the eyes. They had the audience from college. They brought it to the W, and now, it's just exploded."
Cunningham went on to hail the WNBA for becoming "so diverse" and inspiring young girls to pursue basketball careers.
