Mississippi State Bulldogs star quarterback Kamario Taylor is out for the season. The news was announced Tuesday.
The second-year quarterback will have an appointment on Tuesday for his toe and is expected to make a full recovery, per Pete Thamel. Taylor could have surgery as early as Wednesday.
Taylor injured his toe against Missouri on September 26. He attempted to play in the following games against Alabama and Oklahoma but left both early while obviously still being injured.
"On his scramble, when he took off, he felt it a little bit. So it felt like the right thing to do was to get him out of the game. Again, as we move forward, we'll know a lot more tomorrow, we'll know more Monday as we move through," Jeff Lebby said in his post-game press conference following Saturday's 23-15 loss to Oklahoma.
The former four-star recruit was putting the country on notice by showing off his elite quarterback play. He led Mississippi State to some big conference wins, with the biggest coming against Missouri at home.
Taylor led the Bulldogs to a 4-0 start and a top-25 ranking. In six games, he had 1,460 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and four interceptions while completing 65.4% of his passes. On the ground, he rushed for 147 yards on 46 carries.
Mississippi State (4-3) will head to Austin to face the No. 11 Texas Longhorns on Saturday, October 31 (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
