In the night's main event, former undisputed champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez makes his much-anticipated boxing comeback against WBC super middleweight world champion Christian Mbilli.

Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) became undisputed super middleweight champion for a second time with a unanimous decision victory over William Scull in May 2025. The Mexican superstar subsequently lost his titles to Terence Crawford in a September 2025 Netflix mega-event. Thirteen months later, he now returns looking to reclaim a world title.

Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) was elevated to WBC champion after Crawford was stripped of the belt due to a sanctioning fee dispute . The unbeaten French-Cameroonian boxer fought to a split draw against Lester Martinez on the same September 2025 card, and now faces the biggest challenge of his career in his first defense of the full championship.

The Canelo vs. Mbilli prelims begin at 10 a.m. ET and can be watched here on Uncrowned.

The main card starts at 1 p.m. ET on DAZN pay-per-view, with main event ring walks expected around 4:30 p.m. ET.

Mbilli and Lester Martinez fought to a highly entertaining 10-round draw.

Alvarez's decline at the top level has been visible for several years now. Once a ferocious puncher, he has not scored a knockout in five years. Since then, Canelo has gone 6-2, losing decisions to Dmitry Bivol and Crawford, but defeating a host of names beneath the elite level.

With 68 fights under his belt, it was inevitable that Alvarez's body would start to show signs of wear and tear, and that has become more apparent in the last few years.

In 2018, Alvarez underwent right knee surgery before his rematch with Gennadiy Golovkin. Following his uninspiring decision win over Golovkin in their third fight, the Mexican required a procedure on his left wrist in 2022. Now, after his loss to Crawford, Alvarez underwent his third surgery in a little over seven years — this time on his left elbow.

Alvarez enters his fight with Mbilli with the mind of a fighter at the top of his game, but his body tells a different story.

Since moving up to 168 pounds, it is clear Alvarez is fighting above his natural weight class. Some of his most valuable assets — head movement, combination punching and work rate — are nowhere to be seen. Instead, Alvarez has become overly reliant on his power and setting up those punches.

Mbilli could be a perfect style matchup for Alvarez at this stage of his career. Mbilli is a come-forward pressure fighter and a volume puncher. He is going to give Alvarez plenty of opportunities to land on his chin, and if Alvarez's power is intact and he can hurt Mbilli, it could be a comfortable night for him.

If Alvarez cannot trouble Mbilli with power shots, though, it could be a long and difficult fight. At this point in his career, Alvarez doesn't have the volume and gas tank to match Mbilli in a firefight. He is going to have to hurt Mbilli and slow him down.

Mbilli was troubled by Martinez when they fought, so Alvarez's power theoretically should have an even greater impact on the champion. Mbilli is susceptible to uppercuts because when he comes forward, he often squares up his stance and leaves himself open through the middle.

Can Mbilli hurt Alvarez? Canelo has had an impeccable chin over the years. So unless he loses his punch resistance overnight — which can happen to fighters — Alvarez should be comfortable with Mbilli's power. It is more likely that Mbilli's volume, intensity and combination punching prove troublesome for Alvarez.

Mbilli is a very effective brawler, but there is no doubt Alvarez is the smarter fighter. He should be able to set up perfectly placed counters, walk Mbilli into uppercuts and ultimately deter Mbilli from letting his hands go with timing and power.

Mbilli's relentless pressure could make this an uncomfortable night for Alvarez, but it could also play directly into the Mexican's hands. Canelo may no longer have the legs or work rate to dominate elite opponents, but his timing, accuracy, and counterpunching remain dangerous weapons against a fighter who leaves himself exposed as often as Mbilli does.

I expect Alvarez to exploit those openings and end his five-year knockout drought.

It is the final fight of his four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh, which is reportedly worth over $200 million.

Lindolfo Delgado was scheduled to fight Arthur Biyarslanov for the IBF super lightweight title, but the fight was canceled Monday because Delgado decided he would not be traveling to Riyadh for security reasons and because of the convoluted route he would've had to take.

Boxers traveling to the kingdom did not fly directly to King Khalid International Airport. Instead, they flew to an alternative airport and made a five-hour commute on land to Riyadh.

WBC Mauricio Sulaiman and others have revealed their trip to the kingdom took around 36 hours in total.

Riyadh has been targeted by a series of missile and drone attacks over the last few weeks, including strikes on King Khalid International Airport earlier this month that killed at least 12 people and injured over 300.

The attacks have disrupted life and business in the city, with airports suffering temporary closures and major sporting events, including the Six Kings Slam tennis tournament, being postponed.

The U.S. government has advised against all non-essential travel to the kingdom and ordered non-emergency government employees to leave the country.

On Thursday, Saudi Arabia issued a "hostile aerial threat" warning after locals reported hearing explosions in the capital.

Despite this, Alvarez vs. Mbilli will go ahead tonight.

Christian Mbilli will defend his WBC super middleweight title for the first time against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez later today.

Alvarez lost his undisputed championship to Terence Crawford in September, but after Crawford's retirement, all four belts were separated.

Mbilli was upgraded to WBC champion, while Iglesias holds the IBF belt and Jaime Munguia — who fights on tonight's co-feature — owns the WBA. Janibek Alimkhanuly and Jacob Bank will contest the vacant WBO title in January.
